A few weeks ago I was asked to deliver a presentation about how search and ads are related. The curiosity about this preso was that I had to deliver it as story that could be understood by someone that is 100% OUT of the “Internet era”.
Let me now share with you a shorter version…
Imagine yourself driving but you don’t know the road or where to go. You reach a petrol Station (the usual place where you find someone that will give you directions)and that knows the area pretty well. You make your question to the man working there (“Query on the search engine“). He, of course, if he has a knowledge of the Internet will give you good tips of places you want to visit related to your question (“Organic search results”). However, he might give you some instructions of some places that although are related to your question they are not that relevant. He gives you these results because he will have gain if you visit those places (“Ads on search results“). Now imagine that you visit one of these places suggested by the man in the gas station. It is a Bar! On this bar you can request or read something but sometimes you see ads on the wall about food or something else (ads on websites). As on any other ad, these ads are usually win-win situations. The owner of the bar, is getting something to have his add there. The advertiser will gain if you buy it and.. if you are buying it that means it is something that you want to have.
The internet is all about supply and demand, about beeing able to show to the world what you have to offer. Show it well, have a good product and you get recognition, otherwise oblivion is certain. As for demand, you can find everything on the web.. you just have to make the right questions.. This will be my next post.. How to search.. Stay tuned!
